INRETS – Laboratory of Driver Psychology
Research Unit manager

Director of the Laboratory for Driving Psychology at INRETS (French Institute for Research on Transport and Safety), Patricia Delhomme has a distinguished scientific track record in experimental social psychology, with a special focus on driving behavior. She began her career in 1988 with the French CNRS research organization following her doctorate, and was appointed to her current position in 2004. She has taught graduate level courses in road safety management and driver psychology, and published numerous articles and book chapters on a broad range of social and psychological aspects of driving behavior, safety management and public road safety policy. At INRETS, she has contributed widely to scientific and technical research into driving behavior and evaluating road safety campaigns for both the French government and the European Commission.

Technology has a leading role to play in automobile safety because it greatly contributes to improving vehicle and infrastructure reliability, helps limit the physical impact of accidents and can positively influence driver behaviour. Now that it has proved its effectiveness, it is up to all the players involved to dispel any doubts of drivers so that we can reap the full benefits of current and future innovations.
